Who can take lessons?
Michela has students of all ages, experience, and skill level: beginners to advanced players, and everywhere in between. Michela enjoys working with children (from age 5 years), teenagers and also adult students including beginners (see here). Piano lessons are a wonderful foundation for later study on other musical instruments as they help to develop the required notation reading and general musicianship skills. |
What are piano lessons like?
Stimulating music pieces (both classical and modern) and music activities, games and technology are used with students to encourage ongoing interest in music and the learning process. Michela also teaches music theory and playing with chords.
Practical piano examinations with St. Cecilia School of Music and AMEB music theory examinations are also offered if desired.

What is involved in tuition?
Having piano tuition is not a commitment to be made lightly; it involves financial outlay and also requires an substantial outlay of time.
Beginning students attend a weekly lesson for 30 minutes. Parents/carers of young students are encouraged to involve themselves by being present at lessons and observing what the child is learning. This enhances communication between lessons and home, and helps practice sessions at home to be used effectively and productively.
Student are also required to make a commitment to practise outside of lesson time. Students are expected to revise and work on things learned in their lesson in their own time at home each week before the following lesson.
Please read the Tuition Policy for more details about lesson requirements and fees.

Testimonials
"Michela has been our three children's piano teacher since 2006. We have found Ms Pinner to be motivating, knowledgeable and kind. It is a joy to hear them play the piano!"
--Glenda, parent
"We heard about Michela through friends at school. Our child is musical but it takes some effort to engage her in learning. Michela has worked with our child and made an impact as a teacher and motivated our child to learn and enjoy piano. It has been such a pleasure to see our child's skills and confidence flourish under Michela's tuition."
--Tameeka, parent
"Our son has additional needs and Michela has been very adaptable and supportive in working with him to foster his musical interest. He has made good progress and really enjoys lessons."
--David, parent
"Michela makes piano a joy to learn - from beginners to those pursuing a career in music. Her teaching is contemporary, organised and relaxed. I switched to video lessons when I moved interstate because I would never find a better teacher."
--Amelia, student
"Both of my children starting learning piano with Michela from a young age and my son has now gone on to the Conservatorium to pursue music further. This decision had a lot to do with the solid theoretical grounding and teaching techniques Michela employed with him over many years. She is a welcoming, kind, patient and thoughtful person who is able to read each individual student to get the best from them. Her years of experience have enabled her to have a variety of teaching techniques and tips at her fingertips to pass on to her students. I learnt piano myself many a moon ago and in recent years I have restarted lessons and Michela was the perfect choice for me. I look forward to my lessons!"
